Depeche Mode 101
is a landmark live album and documentary film that chronicles the final leg of the band's 1988 "Music for the Masses" tour. The project is named after the tour's 101st and final performance, which took place on 18 June 1988 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, before a massive crowd of over 60,000 fans.
Documentary and Film
Directed by the acclaimed D.A. Pennebaker, the film is celebrated for its "road movie" style. It follows a group of young fans who won a "Be-in-a-Depeche-Mode-Movie" contest as they travel across America in a tour bus to reach the Rose Bowl. This narrative is often cited as a precursor to modern reality TV.
