Transilvanian Hunger is the fourth studio album by the Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone, released on 17 February 1994 by Peaceville Records. It is widely considered a definitive landmark of the "second wave" of black metal and is the final installment of the band’s "Unholy Trinity".

Key Album Details
  • Recording: It was the first album recorded as a duo after the departure of guitarist Zephyrous. Fenriz performed all instruments, while Nocturno Culto provided vocals.
  • Production: The album is famous for its "necro" sound—an extremely raw, low-fidelity production achieved by recording on a 4-track recorder in Fenriz’s bedroom, known as "Necrohell Studios".
  • Art & Style: The iconic cover features a high-contrast black-and-white photo of Fenriz holding a candelabra. Musically, it is known for its hypnotic, repetitive riffs and minimalist drumming.
  • Controversy: The album drew criticism for the phrase "Norsk Arisk Black Metal" (Norwegian Aryan Black Metal) on the back cover and for featuring lyrics written by Varg Vikernes of Burzum, who was then on trial for murder.
