Meshuggah is a pioneering Swedish extreme metal band formed in 1987 in Umeå. Known for their complex, "mathematical" song structures and innovative use of polyrhythms, they are widely credited with inadvertently starting the djent subgenre. Their name is derived from the Yiddish word for "crazy"
