History & Legacy
  • Controversy: In their early years, the band was part of the infamous Norwegian black metal scene. Several members faced legal issues, including guitarist Samoth and former drummer Faust.
  • Split & Reunions: After splitting in 2001, the band focused on other projects, such as Ihsahn's solo career and Samoth's band Zyklon. They have reunited periodically since 2005 for live shows, including headlining sets at major festivals like Wacken Open Air and Hellfest.
  • Current Status: Emperor remains active as a live-only entity. They are scheduled for a North American tour in Spring 2026 with Blood Incantation as support. Despite the demand, Ihsahn has stated there are currently no plans to record new studio material.
