Venom is a pioneering English heavy metal band formed in 1978 in Newcastle upon Tyne. They are widely cited as the "godfathers of extreme metal," having laid the groundwork for thrash, death, and black metal.

- First Wave of Black Metal: Along with bands like Bathory and Mercyful Fate, they are considered part of the "first wave," focusing on Satanic imagery and raw production.

Current Status
Since the 1990s, the band has seen numerous lineup changes. Currently, Cronos continues to lead the official version of Venom with guitarist Rage and drummer Dante. A separate entity called Venom Inc., featuring original members Mantas and Abaddon (with former Venom vocalist Tony "Demolition Man" Dolan), also performs and records.
