Opeth is a Swedish progressive metal band from Stockholm, formed in 1990 by David Isberg. They are widely regarded as one of the most influential and genre-defying acts in heavy music, evolving from their roots in progressive death metal to a more experimental progressive rock sound.

Musical Evolution
- Death Metal Era (1995–2008): Their early work, including classics like Blackwater Park (2001) and Ghost Reveries (2005), is known for blending brutal death metal growls with delicate acoustic passages and complex, often 10-minute-plus song structures.
- Progressive Rock Shift (2011–Present): Starting with the album Heritage (2011), the band largely moved away from growled vocals and extreme metal, focusing on 1970s-influenced progressive and psychedelic rock.
- The Last Will and Testament (2024): Their 14th studio album, released in November 2024, notably features the return of growled vocals for the first time in 16 years. It is a concept record following a family inheritance drama, featuring guest contributions from Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson.
