"Hells Bells" is the opening track on AC/DC's 1980 album, Back in Black. Released as the album's second single on October 31, 1980, the song serves as a tribute to the band's late lead singer, Bon Scott, who passed away earlier that year. The track begins with the tolling of a 2,000-pound bronze bell, setting a somber tone that transitions into the band's signature hard rock sound.
The bell sound was uniquely recorded at the John Taylor Bellfoundry in Loughborough, UK, where the bell was specifically cast and tuned for the song. Recording engineer Tony Platt captured the bell's sound using Ronnie Lane's mobile studio inside the foundry.
Over the years, "Hells Bells" has become one of AC/DC's most iconic songs, frequently performed at their concerts and featured in various films and sporting events.
