All Hope Is Gone is the 4th studio album by Slipknot, released on 20 August 2008. It is a landmark release in the band's history, representing both their commercial peak and a period of significant internal tension.
Key Achievements and Style
- Billboard #1: This was Slipknot's first album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200, famously beating The Game's LAX by a narrow margin after a soundscan recount.
- Musical Direction: The album is noted for incorporating more groove metal and thrash elements than their previous work, featuring some of the band's most technical guitar solos (notably on "Psychosocial").
- The "Final" Classic Era: This was the last studio album to feature the full original nine-member lineup before the death of bassist Paul Gray (2010) and the departure of drummer Joey Jordison (2013).
Iconic Tracks
- "Psychosocial": One of the band's most recognizable hits, known for its rhythmic "gallop" and massive chorus.
- "Snuff": A rare, stripped-back acoustic power ballad that showcased Corey Taylor’s vocal range and became a fan favorite.
- "Dead Memories": A melodic, radio-friendly track that explored themes of moving on from the past.
- "All Hope Is Gone": The title track, which was the first song released from the album, featuring some of their fastest blast beats.
The "Lost" Album: Look Outside Your Window
During the All Hope Is Gone sessions, four members (Corey Taylor, Shawn "Clown" Crahan, Jim Root, and Sid Wilson) recorded a separate, more experimental and psychedelic album in a different studio.
- 2026 Release: After over 15 years of anticipation, Clown confirmed that Look Outside Your Window is officially scheduled for release on Record Store Day, 18 April 2026.
- Sound: Unlike the heavy metal of the main album, this project is described as having a "Radiohead-esque" or "Doors" vibe.
Recent Legacy (2024–2026)
- 15th Anniversary: In late 2023/2024, the band released a special anniversary vinyl edition of the album in multiple "cloudy" and "solid" colour variants.
- Live Presence: Tracks like "Psychosocial" and "Snuff" remain staples of their 2026 festival setlists, including their upcoming headlining shows at Knotfest Mexico and Australia.
