The Cure is aniconic English rock band formed in Crawley in 1976. Led by the unmistakable Robert Smith, they transitioned from early post-punk into a defining force of gothic rock before achieving global pop stardom in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Latest Developments (2024–2026)
The band has experienced a massive resurgence in recent years:
  • Grammy Success: On 1 February 2026, the band won their first Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album (Songs of a Lost World) and Best Alternative Music Performance for the single "Alone".
  • New Music: Following the 2024 release of Songs of a Lost World (their first in 16 years), the band confirmed in late 2025 that they had recorded 13 additional songs for a follow-up album.
  • 2026 Tour: The band is currently headlining major summer festivals across Europe and the UK, including Primavera Sound, Isle of Wight, and Paléo Festival.
  • Loss of Member: Longtime multi-instrumentalist Perry Bamonte passed away in late 2025.

Musical Evolution
  • Post-Punk Beginnings (1979): Their debut, Three Imaginary Boys, featured sparse, minimalist rock.
  • The Gothic Trilogy (1980–1982): Albums like Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornography established their reputation for atmospheric, melancholic, and "doom-laden" music.
  • Mainstream Pop Peak (1985–1992): The band embraced pop sensibilities with massive hits on albums like The Head on the Door, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, and the landmark Disintegration.

Current Lineup
  • Robert Smith: Lead vocals, guitar, and the band's only constant member.
  • Simon Gallup: Bass (present for nearly all of the band's history).
  • Roger O'Donnell: Keyboards.
  • Jason Cooper: Drums.
  • Reeves Gabrels: Guitar.

Iconic Songs
  • Gothic Anthems: "A Forest," "Pictures of You," "Lullaby".
  • Pop Hits: "Friday I'm in Love," "Just Like Heaven," "Lovesong," "Boys Don't Cry," and "Close to Me".
