Amon Amarth is a prominent Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. They are widely celebrated as the "kings of Viking heavy metal" due to their deep lyrical focus on Norse mythology, history, and folklore. The band takes its name from the Sindarin Elvish term for "Mount Doom" in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
