Sodom is a highly influential German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen, formed in 1982. Alongside Kreator, Destruction, and Tankard, they are celebrated as one of the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash metal. Known for their raw and aggressive sound, the band was a key pioneer of the early black metal and death metal scenes.
Recent Activity & 2026 Status
As of early 2026, the band has shifted its focus toward new recordings and reissues following a declared touring hiatus.
- Touring Hiatus: In 2025, frontman Tom Angelripper announced that the band would slow down its touring activities indefinitely for personal reasons and to manage health issues related to his spine and neck.
- 2026 Reissue: On 27 February 2026, the band released an expanded deluxe reissue of their 1994 album, Get What You Deserve. The reissue entered the Official German Album Charts at #5.
- Latest Studio Album: Their seventeenth studio album, The Arsonist, was released on 27 June 2025. It features a raw, analog-recorded sound intended to maintain the band's traditional authenticity.

Future Music: Despite the lack of live shows, Angelripper confirmed in February 2026 that the band is contractually obligated to release at least one more new album through SPV/Steamhammer, likely within the next one to two years.
